DSC conducts extensive research into each artwork considered for purchase.
Before offering a work of art to a client all relevant books and catalogues on the artist are consulted, the prices of other relevant artworks by that artist are considered, and a thorough search is made for any other available artworks and prices that might be relevant to the sale in question.
This is done to arrive at the current market value in the context of an artist's work and career at any given moment. Research is also necessary to establish which works by a given artist can be considered their best.
It is the quality of the artwork itself which determines it's value, not the sum of the varied opinions of experts in the field. A 'gardening' metaphor applies to our research into the purchase of works of art. 'Weeding' through the hype of today's art market is one of the main roles of DSC.
We listen to others, but must decide for ourselves whether a work is of the highest quality, whether it has lasting or transient value and whether it is priced accordingly.
