Alexis Leyva Machado (Kcho), is among the most internationally recognized Cuban artists since Wilfredo Lam. His expansive concept of all artistic languages materializes a work based on recycled old cultural artifacts that he converts into symbolic icons. Always influenced by the particular landscape and traditions of his country of origin, an island, Kcho expresses the wishes of those that live close to the sea, which has always represented the infinite horizon of freedom and change. On the basis of his poetic treatment of sculpture, underlines the Caribbean soul of these people that live happily with nothing. In this sense, the boat is a perfect symbol to express both daily life as well as exile, one of the crucial questions affecting this small and beautiful country.
